Ten-generation Central Jersey farm with winery barn, pick-your-own weekends, and year-round farm store stocked with cider donuts.

Terhune Orchards in Princeton, New Jersey is the ten-generation Terhune family farm — among the longest-continuously-operated farms in the U.S. — running pick-your-own (apples, peaches, cherries, blueberries, strawberries, pumpkins), a winery barn, a year-round farm store, and a packed seasonal events calendar. Located in central Jersey near Princeton University, the farm draws heavily from the Princeton-Trenton-NYC commuter belt. The cider donuts are a regional institution; the winery barn handles weekend tastings of Terhune-made wines.

What to expect

Drive Cold Soil Road off Route 206 in Princeton. Park at the main lot. The farm store (year-round) is the anchor; pick-your-own runs by season. The winery barn (separate building) handles wine tastings — Terhune produces a portfolio of New Jersey-grown wines. Live music on weekends during peak seasons. Plan 2-3 hours for a typical visit. Pair with Princeton University campus, the Princeton Battlefield State Park, or the D&R Canal towpath for biking.

What to bring

  • Choose a sturdy tote or backpack so you can keep both hands free on ladders.
  • Twist apples upward instead of pulling to protect next week’s crop.
  • Plan for temperature swings on the ridge—layers beat bulky coats.
